These ultra long haul flights have a very high fuel burn per seat kilometer, simply because it burns a lot of fuel to carry the fuel needed. QF might be able to sell them as a niche market, but it's a limited market. Simply put, BA came make more money elsewhere without a need for a special fleet of aircraft.
