The President's Club status from Avis has also been pretty useful and they seem to offer regular incentives to spend on the card each quarter (for example, just got 6000 points for 1500 in regular spend).
That said, unless they offer me a super generous retention bonus this year I'll be dropping the card/membership since I've gone free agent and have been booking UA a lot less than before.
Once I went free agent, I got the DL Amex Reserve to access the DL lounges when I fly DL. I come out ~$200- ahead on the fee because of the free companion cert (I always get $1K or more of value out of it, especially since it's good for F as well). If they drop that companion cert benefit, I would cancel immediately because I'm dividing my travel among 3 airlines now domestically and club access is not that important to me.
