I had better luck calling BA to add my Royal Jordanian Silver Jay status to a companion voucher booking. The agent took some time to update the booking — and the change didn’t appear online, so I wasn’t sure if it had worked — but I was able to select seats 7 days in advance. Maybe try calling again?
