I connected many times in DTW arriving from CDG and immigration is always a breeze. The limiting factor is the luggage if you check some.
1h25 is perfectly fine in DTW.
If your wish to upgrade is just for getting off the plane faster, then keep your money for a better usage, because your bags won't be on the belt when you'll arrive there.
