Haven’t logged in here in years but had to write something about this miserable stay.

3N4D stay. Check in was fine, but the staff were at best “wooden”. Check in at the club lounge was easy though. We arrived on honeymoon after 7nights at a villa at the RC in Langkawi (which was an easy 10/10, would go again experience), but when asked what we were doing in KL, I said “on our honeymoon!” - to which the answer was “Oh I see.” Perhaps the driest response I’ve ever had, I get more effusive thanks for being Platinum Bonvoy then that.

On arrival in the room, we failed to try the bed out before we went out - big mistake. On returning later at night, discovered it is possibly the worst bed I’ve had in a hotel. It’s very obviously an old spring mattress, and beyond firm. Imagine lying on a piece of wood with a sheet on it. We were so shocked we were in hysterics.

We called down and asked if there was something they could do about it? Housekeeping came with essentially another quilt to put under the bottom sheet, that was (there’s no other word for it) LUMPY. Like lying on uneven ground, camping in a sleeping bag and tent. Not brilliant but better than nothing. I still can’t believe I’m comparing a JW MARRIOTT to literal CAMPING in a tent!!

The next day we walked over to the RC next door and literally asked their staff if we could try out their bed - it was that pathetic. They said they have the same owners as the JW so the beds are actually the same, but *THEY* would call the JW and try and fix our bed instead.

After arriving back at the JW that night, they actually must have put some kind of mattress topper on - but instead of a piece of wood, now it’s been reduced to just what I would call a yoga mat on a block of wood. Yay.

We tried in room dining - what a mistake. Firstly, the late night menu (after 1030pm) couldn’t be ordered until 1030 - even though it was 945. Fine. The Greek Salad that arrived was a sorry 3 pieces of feta on a bed of cucumber and an olive. The lasagna was so burnt on the bottom that I couldn’t cut through it. I literally thought it was a piece of plastic attached to the bottom by accident. I’ve had instant meals that were better.

Some staff are nice - some are downright rude. I’ve had far better stays at Fairfield’s, both from staff and amenities. Among the litany of other problems:

- the wardrobe wont close properly so the light inside it is visible all night long
- the master switch for the light doesn’t actually turn off the lights.
- the light switches actually make no sense at all - one of the switches by the bed turns on the lights and the OTHER turns them off. It’s a different button to turn on and off the lights…!!!
- all the lamps in the room require you to physically go and turn them off and on. Some at the wall switch or unplug from the wall.
- the TV is completely ....ed. The TV channels get interference periodically and there’s a laughably small number of channels (around 10, mostly free to air). The chrome cast just straight doesn’t work (despite help from staff).
- the wifi is, as many have said, hilariously slow and internet drops as well
- there is no luggage rack so… enjoy having your luggage spread out on the floor
- the minibar is empty. The fridge is just empty...??
- food at the club lounge was VERY average. Fried noodles are cold, milk was room temperature, even the cereal was soggy or stale. Best part was the yogurt and freshly made omelet.

Literally the only positive I can say about this property is that it is well located. It’s also cheap for a JW but that’s probably because it would be better labeled as a 3 star value label than a JW luxury experience.

Worst experience overall in a Marriott, enough that I’m likely to check out a day early and try the St Regis or RC.

EDIR: the wifi dropped out and stopped working while I tried to post this. How poetic.
