I am in the process of booking an AWARD TICKET on Delta from PIA to ATL to UVF. The connection on the return is 54 minutes. Delta says this is an illegal connection, because it is an international flight, but that they would be happy to book the illegal connection. The other option is to overnight in Atlanta, and take the early flight back to PIA. Here are my questions…

1. What happens if you miss a connection and it is booked illegally? (This is the last flight of the day – can you stand by on the next morning’s flight?)

2. Does 54 minutes seem like enough time, off of a Caribbean international flight? Any one routinely book connections such as this one? How fast are customs in ATL?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Paul, I have almost the same routing. I return to MSP and have a 63 minute connection time. I assume one will have to clear customs in ATL. It will be close but perhaps others can explain it better. Evidently 60 minutes is the so called legal time required to connect.
