ATR72 Cabin Bag

Hi everyone,

Is there a specific policy in place allowing people to check bags that would otherwise be cabin bags, when flying on an ATR72?

context: I don’t have any checked bag allowance. I do however have the right to a cabin bag size 55x40x23. My bag is exactly that size. I know for a fact it doesn’t fit in the overhead lockers in the ATR72.

I’ve flown on the ATR72 with finnair quite a few times and I’ve always been able to just tell the crew « hey I think my bag won’t fit » when boarding, and they would always be happy to stash it at the back of the plane.

But in the past months they have refused every single time. Last time was a difficult situation as I was sat in the emergency row and the plane was full (i.e. no way for me to put it under the seat). When I asked the crew to please take my bag to the back they were quite annoyed and replied « if you knew it won’t fit why didn’t you check it » well because I don’t have a checked bag allowance

is there any policy in place for that?

thank you
