AA offering free WiFi to AAdvantage members was a false rumor spread by a blogger. The actual announcement was that AA was going to allow AAdvantage members to redeem miles for WiFi. I’m not sure if that has been implemented yet.
But IME it doesnt work on transborder flights like CA and MX.
