Always interesting to read to see the hotel being benchmarked amongst the competition.
Glad you had a confy stay.
I might be biased but all my fun times were at Ximending, but i can inderstand the contemporary crowds flock nowadays to 101/Xinye.
I should add the 5th floor rooms are extra biggie. Bigger then 6th (Because 5th floor balcony sticks out), and much bigger then floors above (Non-balcony rooms).
I was put in a room higher up, but I had an issue and was promptly accommodated to another room - 5th floor. I thought that room was spacious (As a standard looking room). Certainly much larger then Humble House or Grand Hyatt standard rooms! The video / some posts here complaining about service...had no issues per se. Maybe some staff wasn't as warm *possibly* - say when compared to other places.....but it's not something I would have remarked on except after reading this thread.
Not familiar with Ximending area. Going to the Main Train station is about as close as I would get. I have walked to the West a little of the train station...so maybe I was on the border of the area.
...just looking at street view...I see there is an entire walking district. Very interesting. Didn't know something like that existed in Taipei - other then night markets.
I am IHG Platinum. Received nice can of tea leaves. And two drink coupons - which I used after I checked out. Also breakfast was included on my award stay - that was unexpected.
At Humble House - got bfast (And 2 drink coupons) as a diamond. At Grand Hyatt - had to pay for it - was Explorist when there. At Renaissance (Marriott Gold) had to pay for breakfast, but it was pretty cheap..cheaper then Grand Hyatt if memory serves me.
Yeah..lots of people at SongGao area --- which is where the Humble House is. Every area has its pluses and minuses - like everything else.
Regent is good - if you DO NOT want a touristy area (101), hordes of people - while still having people, nor be out far away. Regent is also next to Linsen / Kangle park - so there is some green buffer nearby.
Zhongshan district is older construction vs 101 area.
I've stayed at Episode Daan before too -- and not crazy about that location. Daan is super dense. But the Episode isn't in the same hotel class as any of these other ones.
I've walked by the Doubletree Zhongshan...busier location, but super close to Zhongshan metro (Which requires a little more of a walk - doable in non-summer / bicycle ride from Regent). Never went inside.
