AS offered SEA-based DL flyers a place to land after the SkyMiles downgrades to capture SEA market share. While WN enjoys good market share at PDX to somewhat counter AS' dominance, they are an afterthought in SEA. I highly doubt they want to lure any A-listers away in either market. A-listers won't have to pay for bags anyway.
With or without status matches, AS can probably drive WN to shrink more in SEA as even non-status pax would prefer to fly Alaska if bag benefits are no different.
But there are plenty of A-Listers to go after in other markets (LAX, SAN, HNL, and SFO to some extent). If pax closer to DFW were making their way to DAL for free bags they may be more willing to fly AA.
The AS visa companion fare is now arguably more competitive than than most of the Southwest visa cardsl benefits, but I wonder if Southwest will revamp some of their higher annual fee cards with extra legroom rolling out later.
Luring them away isn't just about ticket purchases...it's also about selling miles (esp with eqms on cc spend and partners)
