I’m sure this has been answered elsewhere so I apologize but BA’s own FAQ is self-contradictory and I’d really like to be clear about this.
My son had Gold during the status year ending 8 Jan 2025, so it was valid until 28 Feb 2025. On March 1st he dropped to Silver.
His account states that “card expiry” is 28 Feb 2026, which I understand to mean that he’d have Silver until that date.
Let’s assume he takes no extra flights during the “short” collection year, and his re-credited points from the relevant portion of the last collection year are 160, so not even enough to requalify him for Silver.
According to the new tier status collection year FAQ, it sounds like his Silver status would be valid until Feb 28th 2026:
Ending in January
- Your current Tier Point Collection
Year will continue as normal until 8
January 2025. The status you achieve during this period will expire on 28
February 2026
- Your next collection period will be 9
January - 31 March 2025
- Tier Point Adjustment: we'll add on any Tier Points you earn during 1
April 2024 - 8 January 2025 to work out your Tier status
- Any Tier status you earn during the transition period (i.e. your next tier point collection period which starts on 9 January 2025 and is shortened to end 31 March 2025, with the Tier point adjustment applied) will expire on 30 April 2026
However, BA state elsewhere in the same FAQ:
What happens if I don't earn enough Tier Points to renew my current status in my Tier Point collection year which ends on 31 March 2025?
There will be no changes to the way Members earn status. It you don't earn enough Tier Points to retain your Tier status, your status will be updated at the end of your Membership card expiry date.
We'll look back at the full 12-month period from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025 to determine the status you hold in the next membership year.
If you don't meet the required Tier Points to maintain your status you'll be downgraded from 1 May 2025.
The first paragraph implies that his Silver status will expire as originally planned on 28 Feb 2026
The last paragraph contradicts that and implies that he’ll be downgraded to Bronze on 1 May 2025.
Which is it?
