During online check-in, it indicated that one bag up to 20kg was included. However, upon arriving at the airport in Dubai, the agent insisted that my ticket did not include any checked baggage. Despite showing them the confirmation email, it was of no help.
In the end, I had to pay $283.23 for the first checked bag. Thankfully, I only had one bag to check.
Has anyone else experienced similar issues with award tickets? I have an upcoming trip to Sri Lanka at the end of the month, also on an award ticket, and the baggage rules are listed as "unavailable."
Has there been a recent change to AS award tickets where checked baggage is no longer included?
The same happened to me, I had 2 free checked bags on United airlines, when I arrived in chi to check in to my connecting flight on Turkish air, they asked for my boarding pass and changed it to A Turkish boarding pass and told me I had to pay a baggage fee. I told them that my award ticket included 2 free checked bags. They told me that was only to Chicago, I showed then my infirmation from U tied about free bags, they said if I did not pay they would remove my bags in Chicago. Of courses I paid $150 for each bag a total of $300. I wrote u tied and they told me partner airlines can impose baggage fees, I asked why did you tell me free, they said I’d was free on United snd all united flights. Typical misleadings infirmation. When on awards, make sure you know and understand all the rules or you may be subject to unwanted suprises
