This reviewer is wrong - there are also balcony rooms on the 5th floor - where I was. And I loved (as much as I can) my room. The lighting was great. Super spacious. Can't speak about a low ceiling 6th floor room...the height was fine in the 5th floor in all areas. It was high ceiling. I'm 5'11".
I liked the decor - though the bathroom is too bright and could use multiple lighting options. Yes, the mattress is firm, but comfy enough. Nice change of pace.
Restaurant leans Asian (For their Japanese / Korean guests), I prefer Grand Hyatt breakfast.
Room wise in this category of hotel - I prefer the Humble House - if you get a large enough room. Although the standard rooms are comfy - just on the small side.
The Grand Hyatt (standard?) room I had has a low ceiling. Much lower then my Regent room.
Have also stayed at the Renaissance. Best rooftop pool by far due to location. Completely different location. Spacious enough room...restaurant on 1st floor not as deluxe as any of these other hotels I've mentioned.
- Renaissance - best rooftop pool. Half of rooms will have nice green view, other half - another building (What I had). Not a good walking location. Can't have everything. Awesome rooftop view is because this hotel is away from more dense / commercial areas.
- Regent - best room size wise, but bathroom too bright - based on 5th floor balcony (Contrary to this reviewer), breakfast / dinner leans Asian. I don't eat shellfish -- so that eliminates many of their items. "Sponsored reviews" are bad...but I can't speak about this. Rooftop pool is warm and inviting. View is mostly obstructed...so view at Humble House (City view) and Renaissance are better. The Zhongshan area is a Taipei area that sees less (Western) foreigners. So it's "more Asian authentic" in that way - when compared to 101 especially.
The 101 area is all glitz / glamour / and peak Taiwan - so to speak. Foreigners everywhere. Trade shows in this area. Lots of $$ in this area. For better or worse.
101 area:
- Grand Hyatt - best buffet breakfast for American palate who dislikes shellfish, mushrooms, and "overly complex / weird stuff" [haven't tried anything but breakfast at GH]. Pool is on lower floor (4th? don't remember) - and is alright, but not as nice as any of these other hotels.
- Humble House - best decor - room and bathroom, also a satisfying/good breakfast buffet (Just not as deluxe as Grand Hyatt). Standard rooms are small - but my 101 view helped offset this. 2nd time around I got a large corner room. Very nice. I had high floor rooms due to Diamond. But...if my room was lower...probably would not like this hotel as much.
