A clueless taxi driver didn’t know the area and went the very long way round with much shouting into his sat nav to try and find the major road he wanted. He ignored every gesture from me as I tried to get him to drive the right way and then correct the error. He left the meter on and at the end wanted the indicated cost.

Now I would have not paid the meter charge but my partner, Thai, did. She told me after that the driver had only been in Bangkok a few days and didn’t know a thing. But she remembered 45 years ago when she came to Bangkok with no money, no job and no where to live. And the struggle to try and make a good life for herself.

That’s a sort of tip!
