Same thing with Budget at MCO
Recently discovered a $16.47 charge to my CC from e-toll. I called the number and they told me it was for 4 tolls on 2/19 on roads I didn't drive and, surprisingly, I was apparently stacking up the tolls in FL while I was somewhere over north Georgia. I looked at my receipt from Budget which showed a return at 18:15, but according to E-tolls my return was at 21:15 (to the minute). When I pointed out that I was on a plane they were like "We need to research this"
I said that was great and I could provide my original Budget receipt, the records from my personal transponder, the boarding pass for the flight, the flight records which shows it left the gate at 19:42 AND the parking receipt from when I picked up my car in Baltimore they seemed reluctant to take it.
I reached out to Budget which was a waste of my time.
I worked for rental companies back in the day and I'm more concerned about fraud and liability if some rental agents went in, changed the time of the return and went joyriding. If there was an accident, would I be liable because somehow my contract was reopened?
The whole E-toll thing is a joke... guess we will see what they say after they do their "research"
UPDATE
After two weeks and multiple calls and web contacts, they are processing a refund for the full amount. I'm sure whoever was driving the vehicle won't face any consequences, but it's ridiculous that I needed to jump through so many hoops. My conspiracy brain says that they do this intentionally hoping that no one notices or doesn't take the time to follow up... is that the case? You got me.
