It's true that the free night value seems to be capped by hotels. Best I usually can get from it is 150usd. And availability is almost non-existant in some cities...
About the food discount, it depends: in premium/luxury hotels, the food mark up is so high that it's often only worth it to eat there if you are two guests to get the max discount. And those hotels in Asia usually have a lounge anyways.
Drinks are always discounted only by 15% so it's often better value to go to a nearby bar if you plan to have a long evening...
Also, it's frequent for hotels to exclude or reduce the usual discount for buffets and special dinners. They often offer an in-house guest special discount around 20% and Accor plus gives 25% if you are alone.
So ofc it's more about convenience.
But sometimes I find some crazy good prices for 2 persons that I don't think I could get from any western restaurants in town.
About the rates, the value of Accor plus is the Red hot rooms. You can find some crazy good prices, and that alone makes the card worthy for me. But I stay a lot in Asia and I am really flexible.
