I think you need to look for redemption opportunities on partners that haven't gone dynamic. Before UA went dynamic, I routinely redeem 25k AC miles on (often close-in) UA Polaris transcontinental flights. Dynamic pricing killed such opportunities. Fortunately, most AC partners haven't yet gone dynamic. For example, I just redeemed 87.5k last night for a transpacific flight in J.
