FWIW, I agree. Americans love to tip saying anyone who doesn't is cheap but, in the next breath, complain about tipping and how much it is expected.
I got take out food and while I waited, had an adult beverage. Total bill was $38 and change. I rounded it up to $40. My wife would have been embarrassed by my parsimony which, fortunately, she was not there to witness.
This would be considered generous in the British Isles especially for a take away order.
