It's still a form of (open ended) nesting intended to defeat min stay requirements. But yes, AA would be far less likely to notice than if you were just nesting as two roundtrip bookings at a time. Hidden city bookings can also be employed to same money, but generally only in the return direction and it's also something AA can easily detect if done frequently.
It is not a form of nesting at all. It is simply buying a one way ticket and then a number of r/ts . If the person bought a round trip ticket with the return leg in , say 6 months, and then bought lots of r/t tickets inside, that would be nesting
There is no breach of any airline rule doing this
