India is all about who you know and biases, and sad to see that in airport security. My brother and I missed a flight because of such biases, so always have all ducks in a row and be ready for harassment if you're not native.
I don't think that bias is there with airport security. It just depends from individual to individual. Some will follow the rules while others won't. Some will take their job extremely seriously while others will do the absolute basic minimum to get by.
Some get drunk with the power they have to let you through & make the most of it. I come across people like this in countries like the US & UK as well.
