Sorry, I'm not with you.

If you move from a distance / cabin flown based system to a revenue based system then all revenue generated from the passenger should qualify for nTPs. Thus it would have been totally logical to me for them to have allowed BA imposed charges to qualify. What did shock me, and probably the vast majority of people taking an interest in this topic, was the sudden brutal increase in spend required to qualify for the various levels.

Just to carry forward earning precedent from a (soon to be) redundant scheme and cherry pick which spend qualifies and which does not is inherently wrong. They're happy enough to allow spend on credit cards and hotels/car hire, seat selection, some green scheme et al to qualify - not all of which are necessarily related to flying on BA - yet when it comes to spending cash with BA on redemptions then this is not included (leaving aside the fact that paying for the redemption on your BA credit card does get you nTPs).

My last redemption on BA cost me GBP500 in carrier imposed charges - not exactly chicken feed.

The only way that they could square this circle is for BA to drop carrier imposed charges altogether and not earning nTPs on redemptions would be then be entirely logical. I realise that hell will freeze over before that happens.

Like I said, BA is having its cake and eating it.
