It would not even need to be mainline - a route that is too much for a daily mainline to SEA could benefit from a reliever to PAE with a 175.

What's stayed around since then has been tourism markets (SNA/PHX/LAS for sure, arguably SAN, SFO and LAX). All but SFO fit the model "take people somewhere sunny on vacation". (So is PAE-HNL, which apparently is going seasonal.)
All I can say is AS tried multiple shuttle markets that are classic "reliever from SEA": PAE-PDX, PAE-BOI, PAE-GEG, PAE-SJC and PAE-ANC (all of them get a ton of service from SEA), and they left the market for ALL of them.
So that history plus UA flopping on PAE-DEN (and let's face it, AS isn't connecting ANYONE beyond DEN, UA can connect a lot of folks) makes me very skeptical that PAE is much beyond a leisure market play for AS.
