Wishful thinking, of course, but AS and VS already do something similar so it's not completely 'out there'.

Personally, I'd think wishful thinking indeed. In my view, it is far more likely that the ability to part pay with avios yet have a booking considered revenue be quietly ditched in the process rather than redemption bookings now counting towards status.
