As for searching by ticket number, do you mean on the Delta site? There is a page on the Delta site that says you search by ticket number, but when you go to that website a search by ticket number isn't actually one of the pulldown options. You can search by several things including credit card number, etc. but none of those worked.
Call Amex and get the ticket number of the unused tickets. Easy enough. Then enter it in delta.com once you have logged in. It should show up. Then you can try and use one of the hacks to extend the validity. It may or may not work since it is a hack. Eventually, Delta will fix the system so that validity cannot be extended. Refer to Xliiper's post number 5 above.
