I would imagine AS is going to treat this the same way they did when G4 decided to move in at BLI (declaration of war).
TBH I am surprised it took this long for a ULCC to show up at PAE. Seems like the ideal setup, small regional airport, the strength is typically leisure markets, sub-daily frequencies are viable.
WN said that the terminal was too small, G4 didn't want to deal with the County's restrictions, NK and B6 haven't really expressed much interest in the PNW.
It's worth noting that F9 has tried serving BLI and did not succeed. G4 is still doing fairly well and AS is back to SEA flights only.
It's honestly surprising how many different flights AS has tried out of PAE which haven't worked out enough to stay year round. It also makes some odd decisions such as having three flights land around the same time (10 PM) after the tower closes and has now pushed the mainline PAE-LAS to a 9:30 PM departure.
I'm hoping that AS tries to compete with F9 for connecting traffic to places east of Phoenix and that other airlines see the potential to expand at PAE. The airport has a ton of potential and lots of potential passengers if fares are at least somewhat comparable to those out of SEA.
