I will be surprised if it's not in place by April 2026, or even before then given BA's wilful rug pull on the 30th of December. At this stage, a devaluation by upping the points requirements a bit would probably come as a relief, as it might keep dynamic pricing at bay a little longer.

A recent Avios Hotels promotion was generating 20 Avios per £, rather than the usual 10. The earning on a hotel costing £1k for a stay would therefore yield the same avios than I (Silver) would receive for a flight booking with £2,500k eligible spend. Therefore, the actual cost to me would be over £3k. That is quite a wide discrepancy in reward relative to the £ spent by the customer. Presumably it also leads to a big increase in the number of Avios issued, which will be done with an expectation that someone will want to redeem them.

They have also made BA(E)C a spend-based programme. Continuing to provide reward availability that is out of sync with that by providing fixed rate redemptions seems like a contradiction and I am sure they will change that.

As the majority of my travel is leisure and also during holiday periods (bloody children!), I get a lot of value out of Avios flights and I genuinely cherish this benefit. A move to dynamic pricing destroys the residual value left in the programme for me. Obviously those with more control over their leisure travel might benefit from cheaper redemptions under a dynamic system, particularly if they like Tuesdays in January and November.

I am still collecting Avios by choice currently, but am also looking to burn them as I can see the switch happening. I hope I'm wrong, but I have enough for several short-haul redpemptions. Under dynamic pricing, I anticipate I'd get one or maybe two at best, given the times that I'm seeking to use them.
