sometimes if you sit on the schedule change several months out, someone in Alaska will get to it and send you updated reissued ticket without the need to call or chat, so that is always an option also, to only call if the flight is 1 week out.
And there lies the problem - AS reissues the ticket instead of just validating it re: the schedule change. Change of flight number? Sure - reissue to be safe (although it could just easily be re-validated, if no routing change). Minor time change? It is a simple few keystrokes for anyone properly trained on a GDS. I don't know the rationale for this, but maybe there is or once was one.
