That’s interesting, because my experience on the A321neos has always been the opposite- FA1 tends to F alone at first, and then (sometimes) an FA from Y comes up to help. Of course, I know FAs have their own preferences and may not always follow the service flow.
I've seen both things in play separately...Unless the lead FA sends them away, FA3 usually helps until meal delivery, but on 321's especially I've also seen FA3 return to help with pickup service, dessert and/or beverages after they finish with the coach service. As dw mentioned above though, I've also seen the lead send FA3 to the back immediately and just have them come back to help with pickup/dessert/beverages.
