Had multiple underwhelming experiences at ATL airport with AA and airport staff in general, we are considering short checking our bag on DFW ATL LHR AMS itinerary with the first flight on AA and the rest on BA. Logic being if we can pick up the bag in ATL and check it directly with BA there is less chance of the bag not being transferred properly from AA to BA at a non OW hub airport like ATL.

Thoughts on this approach vs just checking it all the way to AMS and hoping for the best. We have 4.5 hours in ATL between flights so plenty of time to do the landslide connection to recheck the bag if we want.
