I think its safe to conclude that on SK, there isn't.

Crew disappearing entirely between meal services is something I have seen on a number of airlines, airlines where I have also had excellent services. It really comes down to the Purser/CSD/ISM/whatever the airline calls it to make sure that their team is performing the routines rather than just disappearing. You see it in most job areas though, some perform well, some are just there for the minimum.
I'm ok with crew disappearing, in fact I favor that, provided they respond to call buttons (with a smile and not a sigh), come through the cabin at least once an hour or every half hour and don't make up their own rules during the flight about things like only serving cocktails during meal service and then having to show them an email from their head of customer service that in fact they are available all flight long causing them to childish retaliate with half-full glasses.

Most companies have stringent performance management processes to deal with the folks doing the bare minimum. In the case of an FA there is an immediate correlation and risk to the business's revenue and it should be acted on promptly. SK not having done so for decades is visible in their financial situation.

Can't really relate, its usually the Americans who have no problem exercising their freedom to service. Provided you paid for a fare that includes service.
