There is just a decent amount of competition on these routes and tbh AA will route the over water section on EI anyway a lot of the time. Looking like most of the cheaper options for DUB-XXX-AVL on AA are EI over water.
Yes, that would be due to the joint venture they have, where AA, EI, BA, AY, IB and Level all pool their revenue and so on together on transatlantic flights.
It doesn't matter to the airlines who flies what really.
