The status is not refreshed until the booking is touched. If you don't do anything that will be at check-in, and the status that is current at that time will be displayed on the boarding pass. If you were to switch back&forth between FFP's before checkin, likely the status will be refreshed at some point during that process.

If any of that means that your existing seat selection will be invalidated...I do not know. probably if you touch seat selections in any way you would lose the benefits. Which may, or may not, happen automatically when checkin opens. Though I have no personal experience..
