I’m just back from the R-C for my first (and last) stay. While I would typically choose the MO or Palace, I had a meeting in Roppongi and have wanted to give R-C a try. I was surprised by how strongly I disliked this hotel. Even leaving the location aside, this place is very long in the tooth. Our suite (which did have a lovely view) was dark, low ceilinged and had a hard to fathom old fashioned lighting system. The bathroom had a small, angled shower and the floor and shower grouting was in need of a good scrub.
The room was furnished in old tag sale pieces that were unattractive in the extreme. TVs were just sitting on cabinets and the dark rugs plus grandma furniture looked grimy. The hall ways were done in depressing dark hues to compound the vibe.
Overall, I found the staff indifferent and there was a pretentious formality that was off putting.
The club lounge was a nice amenity but more self service than one would expect. For example, during tea time we had to make our own which felt off considering the lovely tiered plate of goodies provided. I think a tea service billed as such should come with a proper pot.
I rarely have anything but good experiences in Tokyo hotels but I would have left and gone elsewhere had my stay been even a day longer. Reno needed, stat.
