I wish they would include domestic flight segment on an international itinerary as one of my recent trip didn't clear the upgrade. In addition to missing the upgrade, I also missed out on the 1000 miles. I inquired Worldperks with this question, and they concluded that it was due to my "International" status.
Platinum member must be on a paid domestic itinerary that is eligible to earn WorldPerks credited flight miles. A domestic itinerary includes flights between the US48, Alaska, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America.
Reading further into the fine print, they technically can say "no" to the 1000 miles guarantee if your itinerary includes a flight segment into and out of Hawaii....... I don't know whether they would or not but that's up to Northwest.
