Just received a call from the CIBC credit card insurance team. They aren't going to cover any expenses for delayed/cancelled flights due to the DL 4819 crash at YYZ as it is not a covered reason. Was hoping to expense a couple of nights in a hotel as we were stuck in MEX. Curious if anyone is in the same boat and what you would suggest? I think it's unlikely that AC will cover anything (as the delay is ultimately not their fault). I would also push back further. If you submitted a flight delay claim, consider submitting a trip interruption claim. I believe they may be two different insurance policies.
Also, I would use the language they have in the policy as your reason for coverage as mentioned above. I suggest not even mentioning the DL flight as that would just complicate your claim and wasn’t your original carrier. Good luck!
