Actually, I believe AA managment wants pilots to make updates at least every 20 minutes during long ground delays. But management 'wanting' that and it actually being required in the ops manual or the contract are very different things. As for the 90 degree temp on the plane (which I doubt it was that high), you could always ring your call button and ask the FA about it.
