Neither makes sense for me. With Chase, you can't change the reservation with Southwest, and a refund goes back as a Chase travel credit. I assume the restrictions are similar at Amex, and also has a higher cost.
I often rebook flights when the price drops, or do a same-day change. Occasionally, I can move my flight a couple of weeks if there's been a schedule change. I don't think most of those would be possible online when booking through a portal
I guess I should take one for the team and try to cancel a WGA Chase portal booking. I would expect to get Southwest travel funds, but I could get nada. If it's travel funds, that would have me seriously considering getting a Sapphire Reserve card.
Never mind. Others have tried it months ago and confirmed that you can't get Southwest travel funds if you book through Chase. So no 1.5 cents of travel funds per Chase point. The best option is still 1 RR point per Chase point and use the RR points for sub-$100 flights.
