Holiday Inn & Suites Makati (Manila) - The Philippines
Mods this hotel probably merits a "Master Thread". Possibly gets little attention on FT because it is very much a Staycation venues for Filipinos.
What is your Priority Club status?
Plat Amb.
Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Apart from the lounge and the outstanding staff they picked up from The New World post covid it is very poor.
HISM is the least bad IHG hotel in Manila.
Never been happy with a stay at an IHG Philippines hotel since The IC closed.
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard. And got exactly that – first room that was rejected was the worst condition I have been offered ever. Initial smell of bleach. Then noticed striped carpet cleaning residue. Almost certainly had been occupied by a sick pet!. YUK
Took 30 minutes after resorting to going to reception and making a scene to resolve.
As recorded in other threads this hotel is “mean”. Stayed many times and never received an upgrade.
How are the rooms?
Small, very dated. HIE at best. Bathrooms are horrible.
How is the exec. lounge?
The only reason for staying here! Recently refurbished and is now as good as the very pleasant Residence Club lounge at The New World. If the Club staff ran the hotel it might improve the mess several notches!
What was good and what was bad?
GOOD
Location wise it is by far the best IHG option in Manila. Makati is pleasant.
The location of the increasingly overpriced decrepit HIE not too far from T3 at Newport is…. I’m going OT I’ll update the thread reviewing ALL Manila IHG hotels
A GRAB SUV costs well under US$10 and if lucky takes about 25 minutes to/from all Terminals. (Not rush hour to/fromT3 -be warned)
BAD
Everything except the wonderful but badly treated and underpaid staff - and The Club Lounge itself.
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Shockingly poor. You can get 2X the quality for the same price in even the expensive Asian cities like Singapore and Hong Kong. Unfortunately all mid/high end Manila hotels are extortionately over priced. Compare the rates at The Regent HK with Raffles in Manila, and complaints about that hotel may go quiet. LOL
Yes will return. HISM is the only viable option for us in MNL for our several overnights each year between flights to/from the provinces to overseas.
On points it is often decent arbitrage because of the stacked service and tax charges on the cash rate.
