No the fuel price depends on were you r filling up but indeed around Eur. 1,80 a liter...

Your train option : directly from Schiphol airport to Maastricht city center takes about 3 hrs .
You have to switch train once in Den Bosch
See www.ns.nl

Rental Car ?
EV ??
Why making your travelling difficult ....
My idea is looking at Hertz with CDP 211767 / PC 210402
Switching the Hertz site to different countries ; price changes you would not expect
Avis same story about the country settings but i prefere avis.is/en
AWD W819200 gives you the best price....
Remains one question for me : Why flying to Amsterdam for staying in Maastricht....
Dusseldorf ( DUS ) seems to be the best option .

But Maastricht is a great place to stay even for two days...
Andre Rieu open air concert ?

PS ,
r. I understand that fuel in The Netherlands is the equivalent of around Eur. XXXX a litre, so I was considering hiring an EV instead.
Charging is not cheaper then filling with gas !!
