I believe QF’s a380 maintenance is done at LAX - or at least part of it. So that’s the reason why delays often happen as they really are waiting for the engineers to sign off the work that’s been done that day. Fairly common for an hour or two delay.
The alternative to BNE would be a delay for pax of 24 hours. Not ideal.
I believe this stopped almost entirely on the daily turnaround, which was part of the scheduling change. They used to have the aircraft on the ground from 6am-1130pm but now its 230pm-10 or so but I believe one of the main reasons QF changed the schedule was that they werent doing this daily maintenance on the A380s. Someone correct me if Im wrong but im almost sure of it.
