AEON has just announced changes to the terms and conditions for the JAL credit card in Hong Kong which will take effect in May 2025. In short, a maximum of 1,250 JMB miles will be awarded per month for Octopus Automatic Add Value Service transactions and digital wallet transactions (such as AlipayHK, WeChat Pay HK and PayMe). In other words, given that HKD 8 spend = 1 JMB mile, spending above HKD 10,000 per month on these types of transactions would not earn any miles. At present, there is no such upper limit.
Existing terms and conditions (until April 2025):
1. Eligible local dining transactions include all local transactions for restaurants and cafes, fast food and hotel dining in Hong Kong Dollars is entitled to HK$6=1 JMB Mile. Other transactions are not eligible for the Promotion, including merchant codes which are not defined as restaurants/dining merchants/organizations (according to Mastercard Asia/ Pacific (Hong Kong) Limited from time to time), transactions made in private functions, private room events, private kitchens, dining outlets located in food courts/ supermarkets / department stores, transactions in associations/club houses or individual merchants with merchant codes not defined by the acquiring banks as appropriate merchant codes of the relevant business. Designated eligible merchant categories shall be determined at the sole and absolute discretion of AEON.
2. Eligible Japan Overseas transactions include any spending in foreign currency in Japan is entitled to HK$6=1 JMB Mile.
3. Eligible spending at AEON Stores is entitled to HK$7=1 JMB Mile (not applicable to purchase of AEON Gift Certificate, Molly Fantasy, selected items, licensee shops which do not joint the promotion and any e-wallets transactions (including but not limited to AEON Mobile POS Express in app payment, AlipayHK and WeChat Pay).)
4. Other eligible transactions include all spending with credit card (including the credit instalment plan) is entitled to HK$8=1 JMB Mile.
5. Any AEON Cash advances, AEON Purchase Instalment Plan, transaction of handling fee, AEON online bill payment, all Statement Balance Promotion, finance charge, gambling, refunded, invalid, unposted, unauthorized, cancelled or daily cashing through AEON card will not be entitled to JMB Miles.
New terms and conditions (starting from May 2025):
1. General eligible transactions (“General Eligible Transactions"): Spending (including the credit instalment plan) with AEON Card JAL (“Credit Card”) is entitled to HK$8=1 JMB Mile; and a maximum of 1,250 JMB Mile per month will be awarded to Octopus Automatic Add Value Service payment, reload/transfer/any transaction using digital wallets (including but not limited to AlipayHK, WeChat Pay HK and PayMe), person to person (P2P) fund transfers via mobile device/app/electronic platform and cryptocurrency transaction.
2. If transaction using the Credit Card is satisfied as the below specified type of spending, such transaction will be eligible to earn the JMB Mile according to the specified conversion rate; however, where the transaction has already satisfied as General Eligible Transactions as specified in Clause 1, then the conversation rate in the Clause 2 will not be applicable.
• Local dining transactions: Entitled to HK$6=1 JMB Mile. The local dining transactions include credit purchase of dine-in and takeaway in HKD at dining outlets in Hong Kong in accordance with the merchant codes issued by Mastercard Asia/Pacific (Hong Kong) Limited.
However, transactions made through online platforms, banquet services, private functions, private room events, dining outlets in hotels, department stores, associations and clubhouses, and the food and beverage services provided by a designated merchant of other spending categories will be counted as General Eligible Transactions, details please refer to Clause 1.
• Japan overseas transactions: Entitled to HK$6=1 JMB Mile. The Japan overseas transactions only include physical stores spending in Japan with Japanese Yen in accordance with the country / region code issued by Mastercard Asia/Pacific (Hong Kong) Limited.
However, online transactions will only be counted as General Eligible Transactions, details please refer to Clause 1.
• AEON Stores transactions: Entitled to HK$7=1 JMB Mile (not applicable to purchase of AEON Gift Certificate, Molly Fantasy, AEON Mobile POS Express in app payment, selected items and licensee shops which do not joint the promotion).
3. The following spending transactions will not be awarded any JMB Mile, which include:
a. cash advances;
b. cash advance cash instalment plan;
c. online bill payments made for the merchant categories listed on AEON Netmember Service
(including bill payments to the Inland Revenue Department);
d. fees and charges (such as finance charges, annual fees, late charges and other charges);
e. betting and gambling transactions;
f. un-posted/ cancelled/ refunded transactions; and
g. transactions for any fraudulent, illegal, or criminal purposes.
4. Transaction classifications and regions shall be determined at the sole and absolute discretion of AEON with reference to the relevant merchant codes from Mastercard Asia/ Pacific (Hong Kong) Limited (as applicable) from time to time. AEON reserves the right to change the spending requirements for earning a JMB Mile and the particulars regarding redemption at any timewithout prior notice.
