Thanks for your patience!
Summary of my booking:
- Marriott Titanium, booked with points (66k and 68k points)
- Applied NUA, which did not clear.
- Exact date was Dec 22nd, for 1 night. We were offered a "guaranteed 4pm check out".
- Paid 2950 THB (total, including taxes and fees) per person, for 5 people across 2 rooms, to get club access
We were staying at the Kimpton BKK and because of a late change in plans, ended up needing to stay in Bangkok 1 additional night. Rather than book 1 more night at the Kimpton, I was eager to try the RC Bangkok.
We arrived around 2:30 pm and were taken straight to the Club Lounge on the 23rd floor for check in.
- The view / orientation they've chosen for the Club is poor, as it's the poorest view around. There's the Japanese Embassy and Australian Ambassador's residence, which look nice. But just beyond that is a broad area of low-rise shacks. Rather than have the breadth of the Club Lounge enjoy the lovely Lumpini Park views, they instead have just the side/corner of the lounge have those views (I guess because they prioritized suites / rooms on the same floor).
- Afternoon tea: We were offered tea / coffee, which we accepted. Service was friendly. The afternoon tea that was out had tiny portions of food and somewhat stale chocolate. In terms of the food / beverage selection, really felt like a lounge that one would get complimentary access to based on status, rather than a paid lounge.
- Cocktails and dessert: Nice champagne. Good service, they were eager to top up our drinks and also made us their "signature club cocktail", with mango ice cream, prosecco, and some other ingredients. Again, the major disappointment was food, which was absolutely minuscule in portion size. To give you an idea, it felt like free samplers / tasters at a gourmet supermarket. After having enjoyed the amazing food selection at the Regent Phu Quoc in Jan 2024, this was a real let down.
- Breakfast: breakfast was nice, but nothing special. Barista made coffee was great, with many options to customize. This was the only time one could actually "eat" at the lounge.
Comments on the hotel overall
- What was most noteworthy overall are some nice high-tech touches. For example, the very high-tech Kohler smart toilets. The nicest of any hotel I've stayed in (including when compared to top Tokyo hotels).
- It's the bottom part of the building, so decent but not exceptional views. We were given rooms on the 15th floor.
- Well connected to the new One Bangkok mall, which has lots of coffee, food, and shopping.
- When we left from the hotel, it was very quick to exit from the back and get straight on to the highway to the airport. That was convenient.
- Given what incredible hotels Bangkok has, I cannot recommend it. All in all, as a hotel nerd, I enjoyed staying there for 1 night. But glad we did not spend our entire stay there.
