I don't think you are selfish at all. You are sitting by the window and it is within your rights to keep the windows opened. While I personally may not keep every windows open in my suite, I can keep at least one window opened. That's why I think having a door on first and business class is good in this kind of situation.

The crews have no rights to treat you differently. I will ask for all the missing items. That will be my emphasis on my letter. Keeping windows opened do not affect safety and the crews have zero rights to insist you in closing it.

I had two rather good BA flights in first class earlier this month and it is sad to hear about your experience. I am also surprised on how the F/As seem to care so much about the windows. I flew westbound from LHR to SFO and some passengers kept the windows opened. Nobody was complaining.
From LAX to LHR, some passengers opened their windows four hours prior to landing and no one was complaining. I was on BA 268 that departs LA at 9pm, so half of the passengers skipped dinner. I noticed that a number of them have already put the eye masks on, since the F/As have to keep the lights on during dinner service. Some of them have their airpods or headsets on too, since noise perhaps was a bigger issue. So the F/As are less worried about sunlight waking people up.

I am a firm believer that if you sit by a window, you can decide if you want to keep the windows opened or not. There are eye masks available in premium cabin and most top tier airlines have eye masks available in economy class too. I guess that's why airlines like the automatic window dimmer on 787s and A350s.

I agree, contact BA and explain what happened, cabin crew should not be insisting that you close the blinds and certainly should not be treating you badly when you stood your ground.
