JL37 Flight Report, The First JAL A351 on Intra-Asia routes!
Flight Review: JAL A350-1000 HND-SIN Class J – The First A350-1000 Intra-Asia Route
Flying on the Airbus A350-1000 has been on my bucket list for a long time. However, most routes operated by this aircraft are long-haul and require a visa, such as Dallas, London, New York, and Paris.
Fortunately, JAL announced that from February 12, 2025, to March 29, 2025, the Tokyo (Haneda) – Singapore route would be operated by the A350-1000.
The available options were either to waitlist or try to secure an award ticket about a week before departure. Since both were too risky for me, I opted for a fixed J Class award instead.Pre-Flight Experience
This boarding pass was extra special because the check-in staff printed a special note on it. After securing my boarding pass, I headed straight to the Sakura SkyView Lounge on the 5th floor.
Since this was a morning departure, multiple JAL A350-1000s were taking off around the same time. My flight departed from Gate 113, right next to another A350-1000 bound for New York and Dallas.Cabin & Seat Selection
J Class on JAL's A350-1000 is divided into two sections: a mini-cabin at the front and a larger main cabin. The layout follows a 1-2-1 configuration, and I selected seat 4K.
The aircraft I flew on, JA09WJ, was brand new, delivered by Airbus to JAL in January 2025. As expected, everything was in pristine condition with no signs of wear and tear.
One standout feature compared to JAL’s previous J Class seats was the built-in audio system in the headrest. The sound quality was excellent, and even at maximum volume, it never became too loud or disruptive to other passengers. Of course, JAL still provides noise-canceling headphones as well.In-Flight Dining & Service
Once the seatbelt sign was turned off, the crew came by to take meal orders. Naturally, I opted for the Washoku (Japanese meal).
During the meal, the crew surprised me with a birthday gift and a personalized message! I was genuinely shocked—I never expected JAL to celebrate my birthday mid-flight. It was a heartwarming and unforgettable moment.Amenities & Lavatory
JAL provides a simple amenities pouch for this medium-haul route (unlike their more extensive long-haul amenity kits). The kit included:
Eye mask
Earplugs
Moisture mask
Toothbrush
After unboxing the amenity kit, I checked out the lavatory, located between the mini J cabin and the larger J cabin.Wi-Fi & Connectivity
One downside was JAL’s limited Wi-Fi policy for J Class passengers. They only offer 1 hour of complimentary Wi-Fi, though the speed was decent.Final Thoughts
This was a rare opportunity to experience JAL’s brand-new A350-1000 cabin without needing a long-haul repositioning.
Next time, I hope to try their First Class!
