I’m just back from a trip to the US. I flew with Delta in business (Delta One), connecting in JFK. Our inbound connecting flight showed three gate changes in the 24 hours before the flight, with the latest being while we were airborne. This didn’t really matter as they have a functioning app and lots of clear display screens. Gate changes are flagged on the screens.
Gates at Heathrow can change 3 times even when the aircraft is on the ground taxiing. The gates at T5 are almost entirely interchangeable too, both longhaul and shorthaul can depart from T5A, B or C. Domestic can go from either T5A or B (C is excluded due to there not being biometrics set up at any gates there.
I do agree that gates for longhaul flights could be published earlier though.
