Part of the issue is that LHR is crammed with people. 80mio pax/year, of which 2/3 /roughly are in T3 and T5. However, there is a trial to avoid having to clear security again, which is currently underway and could become reality. As for announcing gates earlier, part of the issue is that gates - especially shorthaul - change extremely frequently.
I’m just back from a trip to the US. I flew with Delta in business (Delta One), connecting in JFK. Our inbound connecting flight showed three gate changes in the 24 hours before the flight, with the latest being while we were airborne. This didn’t really matter as they have a functioning app and lots of clear display screens. Gate changes are flagged on the screens. Although there are some long walks in T4, the gates are roughly segregated into areas (international, domestic, RJs) so a gate change should usually be just a few gates down the same pier.

To get back on topic, Delta have also recently opened a new Delta One lounge for international business class and premium transcon business. I can only say this is in a different universe to the whole T5 lounge complex, including CCR. Welcoming and responsive service at bar or seat, multiple sitting areas including sound proof booths for calls, deli-counter or sit-down restaurant, spa, showers, very well appointed toilets, ticketing desks, coat check. I think high shelf booze is payable but the complimentary options were good. This shows what can be done for business class and I would say is better than CCR or Virgin Clubhouse. The closest comparison I’ve experienced might be the QF F lounge at SYD or CX F at HKG. This is what BA needs to be aiming for (bearing in mind DL have two separate SkyClubs in T4 for eligible domestic passengers which I would regard as good as the Galleries Club offering at LHR, though with some of the better drink offerings needing an upcharge.)
