One more update to this. The whole reason I originally booked a connecting flight was because the direct SEA-YYZ flight in F was too rich for my blood. So I figured that since I had to take a connection, I'd use the opportunity to try out Porter. But a couple of days ago, I noticed that the price of the direct SEA-YYZ flight in F had dropped by over $1000 USD (!!). That left it just $60 more than the connecting flight I booked. Combined with the ITD complication everyone indicated that I was likely to encounter with my checked baggage, well, it was a no-brainer for me to just pay the additional $60 and change to the direct flight.
So in the end, I'm going to skip Porter this time around. Maybe I'll give it another shot in the future if/when they're better integrated with AS. But on the bright side, it wasn't as complicated to change my reservation as I was fearing it might be based on the following:

I did initially try changing the reservation online, and indeed, I just get an error message stating that it can't be changed. So I called in, and based on the above, I was expecting to be told that I would need to cancel the existing reservation and rebook separately (and wouldn't be able to re-use the funds from the cancelled reservation until they posted to my wallet). But no, the agent told me she was going to put me on hold for a few minutes while she worked it out with the Finance department. It took a bit of time (I was on hold for somewhere between 5 and 10 minutes), but when she returned, everything was squared away. My original reservation involving the connecting flight on Porter was cancelled and the funds re-used to book the direct SEA-YYZ flight, with the $60 fare difference charged to my Alaska Visa.
So I'm not really sure what to tell you. I don't know why calling in to change a reservation involving Porter worked for me when it hasn't for others. Was it just my lucky day?

I booked this thru AS, so will *try* to get them to handle the changes
Did you have any luck calling in? Your itinerary sounded nearly identical to mine (yours was SEA-YYJ-YYZ while mine was SEA-YVR-YYZ), so based on my experience, perhaps try playing HUCA and you may eventually find an agent able to make the change for you.
