I just spent three days at this property. Here's a quick overview:
The good
- Marriott properties in CDMX are expensive, but this one is solid value, especially booking last minute. I was able to use two 35k free night certificates and paid cash ($240 USD) for the last night.
- The breakfast you can select as your Welcome Gift is great, with several different options and eggs to order.
- This is my favourite area in Mexico City as you are surrounded by fantastic coffee shops, restaurants and bars. If you are looking for good coffee Quentin just down the street is awesome.
- I was automatically upgraded to a junior suite (although as I learned later it was directly below the gym).
- As an Elite Bonvoy member you get premium internet and once I managed to get connected it worked well for all my meetings.
- The interiors were chain hotel-y, but were nice enough and all the people working at the hotel were friendly.
- There were a ton of bottles of water in the room.
- I had to work through lunch so I had the clubhouse sandwich at the hotel's restaurant which was excellent.
Now for the not good... There wasn't one big thing, but rather several little things:
- When I checked in, they didn't take a credit card deposit, so when I charged lunch to the room I had an issue (the server actually came to my room with a credit card machine) and I couldn't select the Elite intranet because there was no credit card on file. I had to go back down to reception to have them take a deposit on my credit card, which should have been completed during check-in.
- The shower pressure wasn't great. Totally understand the need to conserve water, but there are better water-saving shower heads out there.
- Your room key doesn't seem to open the gym, so every time you want to go to the gym, you have to use the phone on the wall to have someone come up to let you in. In addition, they only put a few towels out at a time in the gym, and don't replenish them that often, so when you go there are often no towels.
- I asked for 1pm late checkout as a Titanium and was initially denied. We got in an argument over the phone, where the receptionist said it was based on availability, and I let them know that was only for resort/convention hotels and that they needed to read the Bonvoy terms. Ultimately, they extended checkout to 1pm, but as a Titanium I shouldn't have to argue over a 1pm checkout.
You kind of get the sense staying here that management doesn't really care about any of the issues. For example, I heard a front-desk employee tell a guest that they were running low on keys and couldn't give them an extra one, and reading this forum it sounds like that was a problem in December. I'd wager a bet that in two months, you'll still have the same gym access issue.
So would I return?
Not sure...
If you want to stay at a Marriott property, this is a decent option in a great neighbourhood, but when I return to CDMX I'll probably choose a local hotel in the same area.
