Kind of expected meter high walls of snow everywhere… but nothing more than a few inches and all the tarmac and runways are free
I was caught up in all of this (back home now). The irony for me is that we were staying in Erzurum and travelling back to the UK via IST. Erzurum city and airport had very deep snow, easily 10 times deeper than what I saw as we passed through IST yesterday. All ERZ flights were running as normal apart from those to IST or SAW. Clearly, the problems were with the Istanbul airports rather than Erzurum where there was serious amounts of snow. I assume they are normal conditions in ERZ and they operate through this every day for several months a year.
