Hi All,
This is my first time posting, but for the last couple months I have been reading the forums and doing a lot of research on an upcoming trip. I think I am getting to a pretty solidified hotel itinerary, but wanted some thoughts from you all.
I am a Marriott Titanium, but this will be my first major international trip, and definitely first with any type of status. I have been stocking points for about 3 years and am excited to experience the amazing service and value that the Southeast Asian hotels have to offer. (Additionally I am Hilton Gold & IHG Silver, not expecting too much for that)
I have a wedding to go to in Jakarta, so that stop is locked in, and I am traveling from Los Angeles, hence why I currently am starting and ending in Singapore as a major hub for flights. Here is what I am currently thinking:
Singapore - 1 Night -
Undecided - Cash- As of now with my travels, I'll have 2 stints in Singapore. I have a list of like 7 or 8 properties across the different chains, and I cannot make a decision. I think I would land in Singapore early in the morning, so a convenient place to drop off bags and go explore the must-see's and get acclimated for a night. A very welcoming staff and comfortable room is what I am looking for here. I think the Marina area makes sense, and there is a lot of love for the JW Marriott here, but something about the carpet design in the rooms doesn't feel like my style... That being said. This is for 1 night, and if all the other benefits of the property outweigh that, I could very easily pull the trigger here.
- I researched these other properties: InterCon Singapore, Pan Pacific Orchard, Four Seasons Singapore, Shangri-La Singapore, The Barracks Hotel
Langkawi / Phu Quoc / Koh Samui - 3 Nights -
St. Regis Langkawi (Points) OR
Regent Phu Quoc (Cash) OR
Conrad Koh Samui (Points)- I think I need the most amount of help here. I had originally booked RC Langkawi as some here were saying it is one of the better hard products in the region. After watching videos and continually looking at photos, it just didn't feel right for me.
- I have interest in keeping Langkawi, and the St. Regis looks to be something I am a bit more comfortable with compared to the RC. For those of you that have been to either of them or both, I am curious your thoughts.
- Phu Quoc - popped up on my list when I looked at the JW there, but something about the bright green or blue rooms and the interesting colorful buildings around deterred me a bit. I saw some great reviews on the Regent there, and I know my IHG status won't get me much there, but it looks amazing.
- Koh Samui - I feel like through my research there wasn't a ton of love for the Marriott properties here, but just don't know enough about the region or the island to properly decide.
Bangkok - 2 Nights -
Conrad - Chase Travel- I got a solid rate here, was able to book using some Chase Travel money I needed to use. I don't anticipate being at the hotel much because my stay is so short here. Conrad is a brand I have enjoyed in New York & Los Angeles.
- Could definitely be persuaded to check out some other properties here as I know there are many to choose from. But feels like a safe bet for now.
Jakarta - 3 Nights -
The Langham, Jakarta - Capital One Travel- Great value for what I think is a very lux brand. Close to where I need to be for the wedding. Debated Park Hyatt, but location isn't as convenient.
Bali - 5 Nights -
St. Regis Bali - Points- This feels like a pretty great choice based on all the threads I have read. Really looking forward to this. I have never stayed at a St. Regis.
Singapore - 2 Nights -
Singapore EDITION - Points- This one I originally had at the start of my trip for 1 night, but kept looking at more and more photos and got super excited about it. Decided to move it to the end of the trip. Will be my first stay at an EDITION.
I will be traveling in November. I think overall I am seeking relaxation and a bit of the beach destinations, obviously mixed in with the cities of Singapore, Bangkok, and Jakarta.
I know that I am likely not spending enough time in Thailand/Bangkok, and it will be some quick turnarounds in different places, but I am hoping to use this trip as a bit of a taster of the region. Jakarta is locked in at 3 nights for the wedding, Bali is 5 nights to make use of the 5th night free with points. Really struggling with my first night in Singapore and deciding which island and property to stay at for those next 3 days (I know I listed Langkawi, Phu Quoc, and Koh Samui, but if there are other hidden gems, or beach-focused hotels that I can't miss, I am all ears).
Apologies if the format of this post isn't appropriate for here as I am still learning more about FlyerTalk, but hopefully you all have some experiences and recommendations for me. Like I mentioned, this will be my first time really traveling internationally to high-end hotels and with status, so any tips for pre-travel and during my stays, are also appreciated.
Thanks all!
